I'm sure you've heard the saying "the rich get richer while the poor get poorer." Sitting down and thinking about it, I figure a way of reasoning behind it. Say your at a arcade and there are 2 kids, a rich kid and a poor kid. Each kid wants to beat the latest game that is out in the arcade. Now the poor kid has only 50 cents while the rich kid has 100 dollars worth of quarters. Now since the poor kid only has 50 cents, he has to make his money last. So the poor kid is cautious with his moves and sometimes acting conservative. Knowing that his next move might be his last, he feels pressured and a little nervous that the game might end. Soon the pressure gets to him so much that me makes the wrong move and BOOM, its game over for the poor kid. The poor kid walks away from the game thinking about what he should've done to save himself instead of what he actually did.
Now as for the rich kid, he doesn't care, he has 400 quarters at his disposal so he plays the game knowing he can always continue if he dies. With the mentality knowing that the game is not going to end so abruptly for him, he doesn't have that much pressure on his back. So he plays the game worry free, concentrating more on the game than the fact that he might lose. After wasting maybe 10 bucks worth of quarters, he beats the game with 90 dollars left. With the remaining money he thinks about what game he can beat next while the poor kid is still thinking about if he can beat his first game.
See with rich people, they know they have more money where that came from. One decision won't fuck up everything for them. While poor people, everything is riding on that one decision. And that one decision can be the difference between eating good and having no dinner at all.
This same form of reasoning can be seen through gambling. If your rich, you gamble for leisure. And if your poor, you gamble as if your life depended on it. Now there are many times I've seen people in the casino, cash their paychecks, go to a table and hope to make it big, lose all their money, and go home hungry. I've also seen rich people come in with 500 dollars and leave with 5 grand. Rich people don't care if they lose that 500, its just chump change to them. They know if they lose that money, theirs enough money if their accounts to cover them. So their willing to take that risk and put their money on the line. Their not thinking conservatively, thats for sure. They have the power to actually concentrate on the game. I can't tell you countless times while playing craps where people want to place their cash on a certain bet because they might lose it all. After the fact, they just leave with regrets thinking "man, I should've made that bet." But their were too many factors that were messing up their decision making. Factors like can I eat after this, am I really gambling my rent money, hey I might get lucky, shoot I can't believe I'm losing.
So rich people got a different train of thought when it comes to money. They have a level of confidence which helps them make wise decisions. While poor people don't really have time to make wise decisions. They more have a "I gotta survive" mentality. Just barely making it, swimming in debt, living from paycheck to paycheck.
The reason I'm writing about this is because there are times when poor people try their hardest to become rich through hard work but never get the opportunity. I feel bad to hear that someone couldn't make it to a job interview because he doesn't have a car. Or how one person has to work three jobs just to survive, it kills me to hear that.
For those people who are on the grind and trying to make it. My hat goes off to you, I know the road is not a easy one. It never is, but its up to you to see if you going to make it to your destination or if your just going to settle for a pit stop.
